Geotechnical investigation and testing – Škrljevo terminal, Kukuljanovo
The logistics port warehouse Škrljevo is located in the cadastral municipalities of Škrljevo and Kukuljanovo, about 10 km from Rijeka and 3 km from Bakar, and it is part of the Port of Rijeka terminal.
Engineering-geological and geotechnical investigation and testing were carried out for this project. We made the temporary landfill geotechnical design in Kukuljanovo and performed the construction of the logistics port warehouse Škrljevo.
The construction of the temporary landfill included removing the surface layer of humus and the upper layer of the existing embankment and then the preparing of the foundation soil by filling, compaction, and geotextile placement.
Measures for the port warehouse include cuttings in the rock mass, construction of a railroad overpass, filling and terrain leveling, filling and cutting of roads, and the construction of a soil retaining structure.
The reinforced soil retaining structure made of modular concrete blocks and reinforced soil is foreseen. The reinforced soil behind the modular concrete elements is made of polymer geogrids with layers of selected stone material installed on top. The construction of the reinforced soil retaining structure is carried out from the bottom up. Construction follows steps, i.e., phases of construction that are repeated.
In order to ensure height differences, three types of reinforced concrete walls are planned.
The railway overpass is built on abutments, and the embankments along it are constructed using cement stabilization.
Shotcrete, protective galvanized double-twisted hexagonal wire mesh, protective wire mesh reinforced with steel ropes, and rod anchors with a length of 3.0, 6.0 and 9.0 m were installed in the slopes.
