Open pit protection design – Library and social-cultural centre Paromlin
The future library is planned on the site of the former Paromlin factory complex in the center of Zagreb, between the main railway station in the north and the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall in the south. What is now a parking lot and the remains of the Paromlin facility will soon host the new city library Zagreb–Paromlin building. For this new building we made the main and detailed open pit protection design.
Engineering geological and geotechnical investigation and testing were carried out, consisting of probe pit excavation, exploratory rotary drilling, engineering geological mapping of the terrain, determination of drilling cores and probe pits, laboratory testing, previous investigation data processing and correlation with new data.
To build a new facility, it is necessary to construct a temporary open pit. The planned measures for the open pit protection included the construction of a reinforced concrete diaphragm supported by geotechnical cable anchors, temporary prop loads or ceiling slabs of underground floors, and the foundation slab.
