Geotechnical exploration and investigation – Rijeka Airport, Rijeka
Rijeka Airport is located on the island of Krk, about 1 km east of Omisalj. From the center of Rijeka, for which purpose it was built, it is distance about 17 km by air and about 25 km by road.
The explored location includes area north-east of Omišalj roundabout at DC 102 to the port of Rijeka Airport, approximately 500 m long. The site is partly built within the complex of the Rijeka Airport. The foreseen underpass will be executed beneath the landing strip, from the arrival building to the roundabout Omišalj on the D102 road. The total length of the underpass is 617 m with tunnel section approximatelly 300 m.
Geotechnical and engineering-geological exploratory works were executed for the need of underpass building:
- Exploratory drilling
- Engineering-geological mapping of the terrain and core drill examination
- Geophysical investigation
- Laboratory testing
- Geotchnical and engineering-geological works
- Examination of previous research works
3 boreholes of 10,0 m in length each, along with 495 m of geophysical profiling with seismic refraction method, engineering-geological mapping of the location and laboratory testing of samples from boreholes, were conducted for the need of the main design.
